Google To Pay 5 Billion In Fine

Google have violated antitrust laws in India and will require to pay hefty amount in compensation.

Google is facing violation of competition norms by the fair trade watchdog Competition Commission of India. If the investigations finds Google actually violating the norms it could be paying about 5 billion dollars. This would be 10% of Google’s global revenue in last three years, according to ZDNet.

According to a news report in the Times of India, Google is saying that it is extending full cooperation to the investigation. "We are extending full co-operation to the Competition Commission of India in their investigation,” Google spokesperson said to the publication in an email statement.

CCI is a body of the Government of India responsible for enforcing The Competition Act, 2002 throughout India and to prevent activities that have an adverse effect on competition in India.

The company is said to have abused its dominant position in the search engine space in India. This particular case against Google has been filed by CUTS International in 2011. Later Matrimony.com also filed a complaint against Google mentions the news report.
