Nokia To Launch Dual SIM Smartphone In India On May 12; Likely To Be Lumia 630

Nokia has sent out invites for a press event to be held in Mumbai and Delhi on May 12. The invite mentions “The power of to”, hinting that the dual SIM Lumia 630 is all set to enter the Indian market. The invite also comes printed with words like ‘Fast’, ‘Precise’ and ‘Powerful’ in bold.

Two weeks after Microsoft completes Nokia device and services acquisition, the company is now all set to enter the lucrative dual-SIM market in India. Last month, Nokia had stated that the Lumia 630 is expected to roll out in May, beginning with Asia, India/Middle East, South America and Europe, at USD 159 for the single-SIM variant, and USD 169 for the dual-SIM variant before taxes and subsidies. The amount translates to approximate Rs 10,000, so we can expect it to be priced at a couple of thousands more.

Both the variants of Lumia 630 support 3G SIM, built on latest Windows platform, and have 4.5 inch screen, 5 megapixel auto focus camera, 8 GB internal memory and support for up to 128 GB external storage.

The Lumia 630 appears to be launch platform for Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8.1 in the budget segment and we may see more refreshes of this handset by the end of the year. Windows Phone has suddenly got very interesting and with features like Cortana and Universal Windows apps, we finally have a three horse race in the smartphone
